Why Every Pilot Should Carry a Flashlight

A dependable flashlight is an important addition to any pilot's flight bag, particularly for night flying. Whether you're performing a preflight inspection after sunset, reviewing charts, or dealing with an unexpected electrical failure, having an independent light source can make a significant difference.

The Coast PX20 features separate red and white LEDs for different cockpit tasks. Use the bright white beam for exterior aircraft inspections and situations requiring maximum illumination. The red LED is better suited for reading cockpit materials while helping preserve your night vision.

Although a handheld flashlight isn't specifically required for typical Part 91 night VFR operations, it's strongly recommended for night training, cross-country flights, and everyday cockpit preparedness.
