COMMON QUESTIONS
Before you order
Which FAR/AIM version should I order?
Choose the version that matches the certificate or rating you are actively training for. If you are unsure, the Private Pilot version is intended for private pilot students, while the Instrument, Commercial, and CFI versions are organized for those later training stages.
Is this an official FAA publication?
The FAR/AIM itself is an aviation reference publication. Northstar adds the tabbed organization system to make the reference easier to use. Always verify current regulations and official FAA source material when required.
Does this replace ground school or instruction?
No. This is a reference and study aid. It is intended to support your training, not replace instruction from your CFI, school, or official FAA materials.
Do the tabs vary by version?
Yes. Different versions are organized around different training needs. Choose the product version that best matches your current stage of training.

ALL VERSIONS
Universal FAQs
These answers apply to every Northstar Pre-Tabbed FAR/AIM version.
Which version should I choose?
Choose the version that matches the certificate or rating you are actively training for. A combination version makes the most sense when you reasonably expect to continue into the additional training stage while the 2027 FAR/AIM is still current.
What is included with a Pre-Tabbed FAR/AIM?
You will receive the 2027 ASA FAR/AIM with Northstar’s rating-specific, color-coded tabs professionally applied by hand.
Is the book ready to use when it arrives?
Yes. The tabs are already installed, so the book is ready to use for studying, ground lessons, and checkride preparation as soon as it arrives.
Are all regulations and AIM sections tabbed?
No. Each version tabs a curated set of commonly referenced sections for the selected certificate or rating. The complete FAR/AIM remains in the book, including material that is not individually tabbed.
Does this replace ground school or instruction?
No. A Pre-Tabbed FAR/AIM is an organized reference and study aid. It should be used alongside your instructor, ACS, ground-school materials, and current official FAA information.
How long is the 2027 FAR/AIM current?
The FAR/AIM is published by edition year and updated regularly. Continue checking current FAA regulations, notices, and other official sources whenever currency matters.
Are Parts 121 or 135 in the FAR/AIM?
No. ASA prints parts 121 and 135 in a separate volume called the FAR-FC. We do not tab this book.
